We ask that players and families understand that participation in our travel program is a commitment. Attendance at practice and games is expected. Practices will be one to two times a week (dependent on weather and field availability) and games will played on weekends and selected weeknights. Home games will be played at DeSimone Field in Ringwood. Expect to travel upwards of 30 minutes for away games.
As per USA Lacrosse rules, youth athletes are not permitted to “play up” in game play with athletes who are 24 months in age apart. Requests for athletes to “play up” with an older team will not be granted for any reason.
This level is an introduction to competitive game play with continued emphasis on basic skills. Players will begin to learn the rules and general concepts of game play. Coaches will focus on basic skills including cradling, throwing, catching, shooting, passing, and defense. The commitment for practices and/or games is approximately 3-4 days a week. Players will be exposed to multiple positions throughout the year. The team will play approximately 8-10 games with approximately half home, half away. Coaches are allowed on the field for instructional purposes. There is no checking allowed at this level. Full Equipment is required.
At this level there is still a heavy emphasis on basic skills instruction as well as a shift toward more advanced skills and team concepts such as dodging, weak side cradling, double teaming, etc. Modified checking will also be introduced. Practice and/or games (3-4 days/week) with approximately 10-12 games scheduled. Full Equipment required (Gloves are optional but recommended as modified checking is introduced).
Instruction will focus on preparing players for High School lacrosse and will include more advanced skills such as cradling/passing/catching with both hands, dodging, team defense, etc. Modified checking is still in effect. Commitment of 3-4 days a week is required for games and practices. Approximately 12-14 games will be scheduled along with one tournament/play day. Full Equipment Required (Gloves optional but recommended).
The Jersey Girls Lacrosse Association (JGLA) is affiliated with the NJ Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse. The league consists of more than 70 towns divided into five regions. The league has more than 7,500 girls participating at the various levels. Although games are competitive, there are no standings or playoffs.
