We ask that players and families understand that participation in our travel program is a commitment. Attendance at practice and games is expected. Practices will be one to two times a week (dependent on weather and field availability) and games will played on weekends and selected weeknights. Home games will be played at DeSimone Field in Ringwood. Expect to travel upwards of 30 minutes for away games.
As per USA Lacrosse rules, youth athletes are not permitted to “play up” in game play with athletes who are 24 months in age apart. Requests for athletes to “play up” with an older team will not be granted for any reason.
This level is an instructional level; practices and/or games are 3-4 days/week and are mandatory. Players will play multiple positions throughout the year. The team will play approximately 8-10 games with approximately half home, half away. The goal is to provide equal playing time to those who come to practice. Winning is not a goal. Players may play other spring sports but missing practice may result in reduced playing time in games. There is little contact at this level and no “special teams” (man up/down for penalties). Full Equipment is required.
At this level there is still a heavy emphasis on basic skills instruction as well as a shift toward more focused positional instruction (1-2 positions per player) and advanced team concepts. Contact is introduced as well as man up/man down “special teams”. Practice and/or games (3-4 days/week) becomes more important and missing of practice will result in reduced playing time. Players who demonstrate good practice participation and good attitudes will see equal playing time regardless of skill level. Goal is to play in 10-12 games. Winning is not yet a goal. Playing other spring sports is still tolerated but practice is much more important at this level due to the advanced team concepts introduced, along with the introduction of body contact and checking. Full Equipment required.
